"I bought this to extend the record time on a Comcast Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD DVR from the pitiful 20 hours of HD capacity. Prior to purchase, I called Comcast and verified that it would indeed work with that specific DVR model and once verified, I went ahead with the purchase. The setup is quite simple. "We added this to our Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 HD cable DVR. I wasn't sure if the SATA port was enabled by Charter cable in the Victor Valley but it was. "While this can double as an external drive for a computer as well, this is marketed (and certified) for use with TiVo and Scientific Atlanta DVRs. It is pretty simple to connect, and once it is attached it automatically is formatted and adds a lot of space to your recording library.
