WD 1TB My Book Works OK When It's Awake

"The My book works OK but it goes to sleep intermittently (randomly after a few hours to a few days) and won't wake up. I am using the eSATA interface and there is no way to safely cycle the power to wake it up again other than shutting the system down and then the My Book, power up the system and then the My Book.
