Compact, sturdy, but watch sharp tips

"How I use it: I generally shoot with available light, and when I do use artificial light, I use a single strobe setup with this umbrella. Things that are great: It's really compact, like a travel umbrella (the kind for rain), and when it's open, it's just as sturdy as a single-folding umbrella. And the material meets my expectations for an optical white umbrella for both bounce and shoot-through use. Things..." Read Full Review »

the strobist umbrella

"So Adorama has had made their version of this umbrella with a big ugly logo on it. It's not cheaper than the original, but the points are sharper and I wouldn't use it aroung children. Anyhow to soften light a shoot through umbrelle is the best option. It gives you the least loss of light and that's important for anyone using small strobes (strobist style) You better get the The Westcott convertible double-fold ..." Read Full Review »

"I wanted a lightweight umbrella to diffuse a lumedyne strobe but I was dissappointed by how flimsy this one is. The shaft is hollow, bends easily and crushes in a bracket. The first time I opened it I cut my finger on a sharp edge. I decided this one wasn't worth using and purchased another. "

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

"This is a great collapsible shoot through (or reflective if up close) umbrella. It's extremely durable and quick to deploy. It's fallen down from wind catching it on my light-stands and has yet to bend or break. Great price as well, can't beat that. "

"I bought this shoot through umbrella after reading The Strobist, amazed at what it can do to improve the light coming from a small speedlight. Turns your small flash into a relatively large light source for soft, professional looking light. The shoot through design has a unique benefit in that it …"  Read Full Review »
