I attached the floor protectors to the top plate with the included adhesive pads so that i could use the spikes on my center channel speaker without the speaker sliding off the stand. "This is designed to angle the speaker upward significantly. The front of the plate is over 1" higher than the back. You can even it out somewhat with the adjustable feet, but it will never come close to being flat. Assuming this is what you want, this seems pretty sturdy and decently built. "
