"I wanted to be able to view movies recorded on one DVR on another DVR, so this little gem is a must-have (literally). Although TIVO says you can technically use a "TIVO-compatible" adapter, they have a lot of disclaimers and it's not worth the effort...just order the one directly from TIVO.
