Great DVD/R for the money

"I'm a tech geekess, but I have a quirk that being that I prefer to get my tv signals via rabbit ears and not cable. Thanks to the 2-09-08 digital signal requirements, I had to replace my DVD/R because it could not upscale and the signals coming in were not translated properly from the DVD/R to my tv (read: a really bad image). A Good Recorder, When It Records

"Let me start with the big turn-on for this box. It has "Copyright Protection". I knew I couldn't copy commercial DVDs, and didn't want to. But I do want to time shift TV programs. However, I cannot record AMC, IFC, Encore, WE, or Movieplex (Comcast Cable, Spokane). The recorder says these channels are all "Copyright Protected", and will not record.
