"I went to a number of box stores and asked for an old-fashioned portable "transistor" radio -- not one understood what I was talking about. I searched on "portable transistor radio" on J&R's website and a number of selections were presented. "I use this radio all over the house & outside while gardening, fishing, or doing chores. I liked it so much that I bought two! Besides AC, it uses 4 AA batteries instead of the bulky, harder-to-find Ds. The sound quality & reception is comparable to many radios that are twice or more the price. "
