It WORKS with 24p and 24pA!

"I bought this despite reading the other review complaining that it cannot handle 24p footage. Not true. I have tapes with 60i, 24p, and 24pA footage, and it handles it all, fine. Yes, even with Advanced Pulldown Removal to Final Cut Pro. So, I think the other reviewer was talking about one of the incarnations of 24 frame video (like the proprietary CANON) variety found on the HV20 and HV30. BTW, I don't thi..." Read Full Review »

The MR/DD of HD?

"O.K., let's capture some footage, shall we? Tape? check. Computer program ready and waiting? check. Deck that exports 720p? Uh..no. Let's look at the manual. "Your VCR can play back pictures recorded in the 720/30p format, but cannot output it from the HDV/DV (iLink) interface." (Operating guide, pg. 76) (sigh). Well, let's not use the iLink. How about we use the HDMI port? Can we do that? The manual doesn't s..." Read Full Review »

"I was very disappointed to find that the GV-HD700 will not play HD tapes shot at 30F or 24F on my Canon XHAI or HV20a camcorders (apparently on all Canon camcorders). It will play only 60i tapes.

Sony, having built a machine that will not function with Canon camcorder tapes (unless they are reco …"  Read Full Review »

"I use this VTR to transfer video material from the tape to a computer. I was also able to record HDV format video with this VTR via IEEE 1394 interface, so I am very surprised that in the specifications tab for this product, B&H states that you can only play back HDV video. "I bought this as a cheaper alternative to the HVR-M15U Sony HDV deck. The HD700 is hundreds less, yet does the same job, allowing me to capture HDV material for use in non-linear editing. I like that you can also send HDV material back to the deck, via firewire. And, for a lot less money, it's co …"  Read Full Review »
