"Sony always makes a good product and I expect this to last a good while. One caveat for the technologically challenge, these are not the VCR’s of old. It used to be you can connect your VCR or DVD to the television with a 75 Ohm coaxial cable, but not any more. NO TUNER - Do your homework first

"We ordered this unit after our old VCR gave out. Nowhere on the order page did it indicate that this unit DOES NOT HAVE A TUNER. In fact, it even touts 'record a show while watching a DVD' giving the impression that it does in fact have a tuner. This unit requires a cable or satellite box or external tuner in order to work.
