"I had previously tried the Western Digital My book essential and ended up returning it. It made a whining noise and was slow. I purchsased this maxtor and love it. I am using the firewire port and it flies. I read somewhere that firewire doesn't hog your system resources like USB 2.0, and that makes sense. "This drive has huge capacity, and is very easy to set up. Unfortunately the Maxtor Manager software does NOT allow you to "Backup what you want" as stated on the box. It will only perform automatic backup of the My Documents and Desktop folders for the user currently logged in. "The first drive I bought installed fine, however when running first backup it started giving disk errors, and caused blue screen with bad drive errors and chkdsk couldn't fix. Also failed Seatools.
