"I bought this phone for my daughter and son-in-law for their home use since it is expandable (up to six). The first phone had an electrical short in the base handset that gave an intermittent "ssst" sound. Called the store and was told to bring the whole set back and exchange it because the handset alone could not be changed out since it was pre-programmed to work with that particular base.
