"I don't know how much protecting the case will do if it were dropped. But it will prevent scratches and scuffs. The speaker is reasonably loud; loud enough to be heard in a public place with significant ambient noise. It does add a lot of bulk to the itouch but i think its worth it for the battery to last as long as it does.As soon as my dad saw it he wanted one too. So I ordered him one also...."
