Here's how to make TV work on your schedule instead of the other way around. It features an ATSC/NTSC tuner to receive both conventional analog broadcasts and over-the-air digital broadcasts, where available. The built-in hard drive stores up to 200 hours of videos, which you can later choose to record to DVD. You can even "pause" live TV shows and watch instant replays. It records on any blank DVD +R/+RW/-R/-RW disc. An HDMI port upconverts DVDs to 720p, 1080i or 1080p formats on compatible HDTVs.

it does it all, but its no tivo

"I bought this because I wanted Tivo for my broadcast tv programs and I didnt want to buy the really expensive one. The digital tuner didnt work for my PBS channel-but it was fine on all the others, weird, so I sent it back and am awaiting a new one. I am excited that I can set it to record Seinfeld every night or 30Rock every week-things like that, easier than finding a tape and setting a VCR-and better quality..." Read Full Review »

Adequate, with limitations

"Bought this from [...] since B&H Photo was back-ordered, and here are my observations and comments:I've been using a Toshiba RD-XS32SU (HDD/DVD recorder with 80GB hard-drive)for about 3 1/2 years to copy video tapes to DVD and perform basic edits in the process. I also use the HDD/DVD recorder daily for TIVO type time-shift of TV programming, in addition to video editing. The Toshiba's DVD burner began to malfun..." Read Full Review »

"Sept 12 2007. Philips seems to take 2 steps forward than 2 steps back.

I have previously owned a Philips HDRW 720/17 and a Philips DVDR3455H/37. Philips seems to advance in development of some features (HDMI and HD tuner) but goes backwards on others. The HDRW 720/17 had a build in TV guide and had …"  Read Full Review »

"A very practical and easy-to-use unit; it's almost impossible to make a mistake. Great for transferring movies (personal and from tape) to DVD. Was able to hook up my VCR and can now record excess shows to tape at the same time as recording to the hard drive or DVD (guess I like to record shows to …"  Read Full Review »

Philips got rid of the on-screen TV GUIDE feature in the DVDR3575H, which was VERY helpful in recording shows, in addition to having a TV GUIDE available for the following 7-14 days.
