"My purpose for this device is to replace an aging VCR. The setup was straight forward by using the exact same RCA wires and RF coaxial connections as the VCR. A direct cable hookup is used and not a cable set top box. "This machine came highly rated. But incredibly, it does not create a top menu automatically. When you record an show, most machines create cut 1, cut 2, etc. Every other deck I've owned created one easily, with the ability to rename each title.
