This AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED lens is an ultra-wide-angle rectilinear zoom lens with a range of professional-level features that yield overall superior performance. In addition to providing the shortest close-focusing distance in its class 0.28m (0.9 ft.) throughout the entire zoom range the lens also features a fast constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 at all focal lengths. It is ideal for photojournalism and general professional-level photographic needs. Note: AF-S feature is not supported by certain camera models. Please see here for a list of compatible models.

"I do a lot of light painting and night shooting, mainly in abandoned buildings. This lens has been smacked into numerous things around the building, and still produces amazing shots. Not that heavy; some samples bad

"This lens is not as heavy as some reviewers make it out to be. Sure, it's heavier than the plastic DX kit lens, but still I could see carrying this all day with my D300 or D80. I rented a brand new sample from a local camera store (new in box, never rented before) and it front focused terribly. This should never happen on a [$]lens.
