"This is a great pro-optic with a consumer build. It's very sharp with no field relevant distortion. You can use it on your crop sensor camera or full frame. Think about it. Purchase a 17-55 f2.8 DX or for a quarter the price, get this 35 f2. It's full frame capable, faster, as good or better glass, and you can zoom with your feet, two steps forward or two steps backward. It's a no-brainer. The only downside is..." Read Full Review »

"I guess I'm giving it the lowest rating here, but the problem comes with age. Early copies were know to have problems with oil gumming up the aperture, but the issue was presumably "fixed" well before my purchase. However I had to send it in for service after two years, and it is going in again after 4.5. Only Nikkor I've ever had a problem with, and otherwise it has been a great, sharp lens...." "This just became my favorite walking lens. A recent trip to NYC, I had this on my Fuji S5 Pro and that's all I needed. Fast f/2 is good for low light/night photography w/out a tripod. Plus, this lens doesn't scream "rob me" like my 12-24mm or 18-200mm VR do.
Pulls a double duty for me now: it'

"Simply one of the best Nikkor Lenses I have ever owned. The 35mm F/2 is a true gem to have in my bag. As a matter of fact, I keep it on my D300 most of the time. The lens is sharp, versatile, focuses quickly and accurately, lightweight, easy to handle, and rugged comparing to the 50mm F/1.8.

"In my opinion, this is the best choice for a normal lens on a DX-format camera. A 35mm lens on DX is equivalent to a 52.5mm lens on 135 film. (The DX format has a crop factor of 1.5x.) I personally like the 35mm focal length on 135 film as well. Because this lens is not a DX version, it works fine o …" Read Full Review »

"Because of the magnification factor, this is a better prime lens for a DSLR than the 50mm many people bought for their film cameras. Very sharp, very fast focus, and the f/2 max aperture gives you a lot of leeway in terms of both available light photography and depth of field. "
