Neither of us have ever used a GPS before and we plugged it into the power outlet and began using it immediately. "This is the first GPS unit I've ever purchased, and I only purchased it because I received a Radio Shack gift card and the unit was on sale. Upon initial use, it kept powering off while in use. I then discovered that the DC car adapter was intermittent and needed to be replaced. So long as this unit has power or is fully charged it seems to work fairly well and is accurate. "This is one of the best GPS units on the market. I have dealt with Garmin, TomTom, Magellan, and countless other GPS units. If you want a unit that is easy to use right out of the box without looking at instructions, this is a great buy. And the price isn't bad either for this little power unit. "
