Units die quickly

"we bought 4 of them to use on one job of installing cctv cameras in a set of schools. they work ok outdoors, but won't go 100 feet inside a building. Plus they die al the time. bad battery connections, units go dead all of a sudden even when the battery is fully charged, and it's like there are shorts in the volume and chanel buttons.
