The Bogen Midi Ball Head with RC2 Rapid Connect Plate is the same as the 488 but equipped with a 3157N quick-release camera plate with a secondary safety catch. The 488RC2 features a separate fast-action ratchet lever for 360� pan and an easy-to-grip locking knob for +90�-90� tilt movements.

"We have an old Bogen tripod and massive ball head that weights a ton, I got a monopod and this mini to see if they would be a good lightweight substitution. Hard to position accurately

"I bought this to support my Canon 40D, BG-E2N Battery Grip, and 100-400mm Canon lens. The combined weight of this combo is roughly 5 - 5.5 lbs. The head is rated at 17.6 lbs capacity. So, why can't I point the lens up at a tree, lock the knob, and have it stay where I put it?
