"I purchase two of these DVD recorder mainly due too I didn't want a combo (DVD/VHS) unit. This unit's tuner in this model is stronger then the turner in the combo unit made also by Magnavox at least to my liking. The unit is easy to operate, program etc., etc. I would kindly recommend for any one looking for one at lease try the Magnavox first. "I bought 2 of these for Christmas. The one I kept does NOT work outside of powering on. There is no set up menu and when I put a DVD in the unit I can hear it repeatedly stopping and starting trying to read the DVD. There is no picture ob the TV so I have no visual and it was hooked up EXACTLY like the other DVD player I had on the TV that works just fine.I'm not sure if I want to send this back to Overstock.com..." "I have only used this recorder to do basic television recording functions. It does seem that the Manual makes simple operations seem complicated. But, with some perserverance it is workable. this is definitely a good quality recorder for the money. I would recommend it. "
