"I have used this model of mouse at home for over 4 years. I've had the same one for over 3 years. If the ball gets rough feeling, just pop it out, clean with soap and water, and then clean the ball bearing points in the mouse housing with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. "This is a nice trackball under Windows XP - accurate, and much nicer than the red nipple on my ThinkPad. I use it for everything including games, though I don't play action games. The caveat is that you have to install Logitech's drivers, which are a monster download (60MB) and for me would not install correctly.
