The Ultra RangePlus Dual-Band Wireless-N Notebook Adapter is the simple way to add or upgrade wireless connectivity in your notebook computer. Just slide it into your notebook's PC Card slot and enjoy incredible high-speed wireless network access while retaining true mobility. The Dual-Band Wireless-N Notebook Adapter uses the very latest wireless networking technology- Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios for each band- Wireless-N's "Multiple In- Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections- MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther- maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G. With Wireless-N- the farther away you are- the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G- -A- and -B equipment- but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N- the throughput can be increased even more by using twice as much radio band- yielding speeds far faster than standard Wireless-G. Dual-band wireless networks operate in both the 2.4 and 5-gigahertz radio bands at the same time- effectively doubling the available wireless bandwidth. For instance- you could set up your network to handle video streaming on one radio band- and use the other band for simultaneous data transfers- avoiding any interference or collisions that would degrade the video performance. The Dual-Band Wireless-N Notebook Adapter allows you to connect using whichever band works the best for your situation. To help protect your data and privacy- your wireless connection is protected by industrial-strength WPA2 encryption. The included Setup Wizard will walk you through configuring the adapter to your network's settings- step by step. The incredible speed of Wireless-N makes it ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video- gaming- and Voice over IP telephony- and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams through the network at the same time- with no degradation in performance. Get your notebook connected to either band of Wireless-N- and also Wireless-G- Wireless-A- and Wireless-B networks with the Ultra RangePlus Dual-Band Wireless-N Notebook Adapter from Linksys.

Linksys WPC600N

"My neighbor has an old Dell Inspiron 1000 laptop. It had a 5-6 yr old linksys notebook adaptor that just couldn't "find" the new Linksys Wireless-N router. So I came to Beach for a new Linksys WPC600N notebook adaptor. Plugged it in when it came and connection was seamless and immediate and they were on the internet and very happy about that...." "I tried this wireless "N" card product under MS-XP and MS-Vista to a Dlink DIR655 wireless router in order see if I can get better throughput than my wireless "G" cards. Under XP/Vista and I got same room connection indications at 270Mbs, actual file copy throughput was about 2 to 3 Mb/s. XP performance was better with the provided drivers, under Vista using a default system detected install of a Broadcom ..." Read Full Review »

"The short answer is - it provides little or no improvement over the internal networking adapter of my laptop.

"I had two problems with the network monitor software. It doesn't configure properly for my corporate lan (peak doesn't have enough parameters). When I did set it up for my home lan, the monitor would just die and my system would lock up. Get something else or wait for revision 2 of the software. "
