The d2 Blu-ray Drive from LaCie is an external Blu-ray disc burner that can also burn and read DVD and CD discs. It connects to your computer via either the FireWire-400 or USB 2.0 interfaces. The drive allows you to write data to single- and dual-layer Blu-ray discs, which can hold up to 50 GB of data; more than 10 times that of a standard DVD-R. These high-capacity discs are ideal for data archiving, backup and HD video delivery.

"This drive WILL NOT PLAY BLU-RAY CONTENT ON YOUR MAC. It is strictly for archiving or backing up data. What a dissapointment. Perhaps someday there will be a software update to allow this function, but for now you cannot play commercial or even your own produced blu-ray video content. "

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
