"A while back my motherboard fried (literally - smoke and all). Got a new motherboard - it only had SATA ports on it. So, I needed a DVD writer with an SATA interface. That's why I bought the HP 1170i DVD writer. It was packed well, it came with an SATA cable, a CD (worthless) and instructions (worthless). "I bought this drive to replace an existing HP drive that died. Immediately, upon first use, the noise level was so loud my wife who was at the other end of the house yelled to me to ask what the noise was. Occassionally this will happen with any drive, but upon removel and reinsertion of the DVD, the problem rectifies itself. Not with this drive.
