Not sure what happened -- system dead

"Installed the RAM -- the system failed to reboot -- put the old RAM back in -- same thing. Can't figure this out -- did I buy the wrong RAM (used the RAM selection tool so I was pretty sure to get the right thing). Now I'm looking at an expensive diagnostic bill to discover what's wrong. "I bought a laptop with Vista (ugh) with 1GB of ram, it's not enough. I found it was cheaper to buy 2GBs of ram through Crucial then purchase a laptop with 2GB or more. I'm no expert but installation was easy and preformance was increased, price was good. "
