"It's much bigger than I expected, but I guess it has to be large when used with the 10-22mm lens. The build quality is very nice. The plastic is fairly strong, and it has a nice velvet-type material coating on the inner surface to eliminate all reflections (notice how black the inside surface is in my attached photos)...." "I always buy lens hoods for my lenses, not only do they help keep out unwanted flare but they also add some protection to the front element. This hood is nice because it is so wide that I can easily get my fingers in to remove the lens cap. The only bad thing for me is that I can't fit it into my bag while the lens is mounted to the camera (I have to take the hood off). Not really a major problem...." Read Full Review »

"Works great, fits perfectly, and you *really* need it to go with the 10-22mm wide angle lens if you're going to do any outside shooting (which you really should). I can't speak for the third party hoods, but the Canon one is made to go with the lens, and, as such, they work perfectly together. "

"Canon's practice of forcing us to buy a hood as a separate item at inflated prices is annoying, but I believe it's a mistake not to buy and use a hood. Not using a hood results in lens flare, and lens flare reduces contrast.
