"The built-in mics on the HF-100 / HF-10 / HF-11 are, to be blunt, incapable of good sound ( self-noise AND handling-noise ). Excellent camcorders, but good grief, are they hobbled by their sound, as ALL such camcorders are. This mic provides 3 modes, mono-Shotgun, stereo-90-degree, & stereo-120-degree. "Nice to have this as an optional to the small mics on the HF10 camera. The directional settings works, but not as good as it should be on this microphone. The wind-shield is nice. The construction looks a bit weak. There should be a better mic for this small hot-shoes also. Make sure that you fasten the mic enough when using it...." Read Full Review »

"I have used this for both solo performance shoots of actor's monologues and The Buckets performing live at the High Dive in Fremont. Both the band members and myself were amazed at the clarity and quality of the audio. I set the camera (Canon HF S100) audio to attenuated. Worked like a charm.
