"Certainly a helpful accessory to have. The battery that comes with the HF10 lasts little over an hour, so having the extra battery (BP-819) adds approx 2:30 hrs of recording time to your day. The only thing that I found tricky was charging the battery in the camera. "The capacity of this accumulator is twice higher than the standard capacity (1780 mAh against 890 mAh), however I couldn't achieve a similar shooting duration increase. No doubts, it depends on many factors, but Canon asks too much money for their batteries. "This is pretty much essential for enjoying the HF-10 camera for any length of time. The camera comes with a 1/2 sized version of this. Unfortunately this large battery pack ruins the ergonomics of the camera by protruding out the back. My thumb rests comfortably on the smaller battery. "
