"You pay a little more for Canon's batteries, but it's an insurance policy against cheesy manufacturing. I had an off-brand "substitute" battery before this one. It worked okay, until the flimsy plastic casing split apart on me as I was using the camera! "I use this battery with my Canon GL2 camera and my XL1. I do a lot of field video for the local school district. You can't have enough battery life when you're filming kids take after take after take!
Long, life, compact to fit in my camera bag, AND I can use it for both cameras!

"Filmed from 10am to 5pm almost non-stop (still turned the camera off and on to save power occasionally). It lasted longer than I thought it would. Great, long lasting battery for the Canon XL2. It does take just as long to charge as it lasts, though. "
