A spectacular professional lens, combining the virtues of the legendary EF 70-200 f/2.8L with the Canon''s newest Image Stabilization technology. The IS system now offers up to a threestop improvement in hand-held ability, responds faster than ever before, and functions on a solid tripod. Additional improvements include faster AF response and tracking speed, weather-resistant construction, and the entirely new optical system focuses even closer (to 4.6 feet/ 1.4m) than the non-IS version.

Incorporating Canon''s second generation Image Stabilization technology, this telephoto zoom responds in as little at 0.5 seconds, while providing up to three stops of correction for camera shake. Its AF system has been refined for better response time and tracking speed. And even the new 8-blade circular aperture offers a more pleasing out-of-focus image. Constructed to pro standards, this fast zoom is also highly resistant to dust and moisture, too.

  • Compact L- series zoom lens with an Image Stabilizer
  • Compact, lightweight, high-performance L-series Telephoto zoom lens
  • Flourite and Super UD elements enhance image quality
  • Minimum focusing distance of 4.6 ft. at all focal lengths
  • Ring USM for high-speed, silent AF with full-time manual focus
  • Compatible with EF 1.4x and EF 2x Extenders

First test

"After using the 300D (Rebel) for more than 3 years, I got the 5D with the 24-105mm in January of this year Suddenly I found all my older lens either does not match the sensor of 5D or the 5D shows the weakness of the older generation lens. I like nature photography and portrait. I need a longer zoom lens. Struggling among the 70-200 F4,F2.8, with/without IS or 100-300 with IS, I decided to go for the 70-200 F2..." Read Full Review »

Heavy, Sort of Sharp

"My Florida studio has two of these lenses. These lenses were our "go to" lenses on the 1DsMkII cameras for outdoor portrait work. What I found over a three year period was that the lenses are mushy at f2.8. F4 improved things, but not a lot. I realized how bad the problem was when I bought a 300mm f2.8. Was like I was slammed in the face with sharpness. It took the incredible 300 to show me how average the..." Read Full Review »

"I bought this lens in May of 2006, and it immediately became my "always-on" lens. It's great for candids and portraits, compressing and isolating your subject with a beautifully blurred background. The images you get directly out of the camera are awesome. This lens produces great contrast and co …"  Read Full Review »

"Bought this as a replacement for my 70-200mm F/4 non-IS. This is a much heavier lens which I think actually balances the camera better in my hand, plus it stays still moreso, however it may become a burden for some on long shoots. Lens takes great pictures, color rendition is good, AF is fast though …"  Read Full Review »

"I use several prime lenses for studio work (50mm f/1.2 and others) but this lens is my all time favorite for medium close-ups and head shots indoors or out. First, this is an incredibly fast zoom lens at f/2.8. No other zoom lens is this fast. What you get is a wonderfully narrow depth of field whil …"  Read Full Review »
