"I wanted to use my laptop without a parallel port for my trusty old DEC Laser5100 printer. Installed printer driver to LPT1, then installed USB to Parallel cable adapter, and Windows XP recognized and installed the driver. But I find that this is one model that these cables evidently are ineffective on. Do a web search first to see if this cable will work on your printer. "I found that it didn't work with a few HP printers but by and large, it works with just about everything else. I've recommended this product to everybody, as new computers rarely come with a parallel port these days. "
