"I had a portable (hand-held) Uniden Bearcat scanner about 10 years ago. It was about twice the size of this one, and the window that showed the frequency numbers was very clear without any back light. It was also very easy to program. "Scanner has poor sensitivity and audio. Clock feature is nice and also the fact that it can operate when there is a power loss as it takes 3-AA batteries. "RADIO OK for price and size and the functions are ok but MAN IS IT A BATTERY EATER you better have a bucket of AA or some rechargeables and chargr with you or your out of luck. Ok for a begenner or some one who does not have a lot of money or wants a very small radio to carry "
